— Pearl Mahogany two-tone mink fur coat (100% real European mink fur). A striking two-tone vertical striped mink coat constructed by a Japanese master furrier using two distinct mutations of mink in their natural coloration; Pearl mink and Mahogany Mink. Classic A-line coat with traditional collar. Has three metal fasteners, pockets, and subtle shoulder padding. Hem ends just past the knees on a 5'6" woman. Pearl mink is particularly popular in Japan, as it was a fur worn by Empress Michiko.

— This coat was made bespoke by an elite fur salon (Mitsukoshi or Takashimaya) in the early 1980s. This can be deduced from the overall design, the hand-stitched braid trim, and the jacquard satin lining with interior tie. The fur must be from Saga, Emba, or Kopenhagen, as those are the salons only suppliers. It would have sold for about $5000 at the time.

— The Hakone Collection is our most premier selection, sourced from the historic resort towns surrounding Mt. Fuji frequented by Tokyo’s elite. To protect from the intense Japanese summer, this valuable collection is currently preserved in our climate-controlled archive. After extraction from deep storage, coats are hand-brushed and dehumidified (please allow 5 business days dispatch time for these items).

— Excellent condition. Pre-owned but very well kept. No suntanning, which is rare for pearl mink. No noticeable wear, marks or damage. Tiny mark on placket (see last photo). No hair loss.

About Mink Fur

Mink has exceptionally dense, sleek fur, offering outstanding warmth in an easy-to-wear coat. The plush and silky hair feels exceptionally luxurious. Mink coats transition effortlessly from everyday use to formal occasions. Compared to fox fur, mink is lighter and more wind-resistant. Renowned for its durability, a well-cared-for mink coat can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Fitting & Styling

Mink coats have a sleek, fluid drape and a sophisticated silhouette. Every coat is handmade, and does not follow standard sizing. Please compare the measurements provided to a coat you own. Fur cannot be tailored to narrow the waist, so to create an hourglass shape, a soft leather or fabric belt will be required. But fur can be cut and restyled, as fashions change.

Care Instructions

Mink is the most durable of luxury furs. Always hang your coat on a wide coat hanger to preserve the shoulder shape. To maintain its glossy sheen, hang the coat in a cool, dry closet. Never wrap fur in plastic; only enclose with natural fabrics. Never spray perfumes directly onto the fur. After use in rain or snow, let it air-dry naturally, away from heat sources or strong sunlight.
